Dr. Robert T. Wilson, Pastor
St. John's United Baptist Church, Milwaukee
Pastor Robert T. Wilson, Sr. is a native of Beulah, Mississippi.
He is the son of the late Elbert and Susie Wilson. He is the
youngest of nine children.
Pastor Wilson is married to Mrs. Ernestine Wilks-Wilson, and
they have one biological son, Robert Jr.; and one guardian
daughter, Edna. They have three beautiful grandchildren, Gillian,
Cameron, and Chase.
At the age of nine, Pastor Wilson accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united with the St. Andrew Baptist Church in Beulah, Mississippi, under the leadership of Rev. Alex Fortner.
When he was nineteen years of age, Pastor Wilson was ordained as a Deacon at St. Andrew Baptist Church in Beulah, Mississippi.
In Milwaukee, Pastor Wilson joined the St. Mary’s Baptist Church with Pastor James A. Lathan and Providence Baptist Church with Pastor Joe A. Games, Sr. served as Deacon at both churches.
Pastor Wilson’s Theological studies include those from the Layton Baptist Seminary Extension College, Milwaukee Institute of Theology, McKinley Theological Seminary, Jackson, MS, and the Wisconsin General Baptist College - Milwaukee, WI. He received Honorary Doctorates in 1990 from the Tennessee School of Religion, Memphis, TN and in 1998 from Eastern North Carolina Theological Seminary, Weldon, NC.
In 1974, at the age of twenty-nine, Pastor Wilson acknowledged his call into the preaching ministry and was licensed to preach the Gospel of Christ. He served as Associate Minister of the Providence Baptist Church. Pastor Wilson later joined Bethesda Baptist Church, Dr. Robert L. Sims, pastor and ordained as Minister. He served as Associate Minister at Bethesda until 1976. The same year, he was elected Pastor of Emmanuel Temple Baptist Church, (now the St. John’s United Baptist Church), where he currently serves.
This great Man of God preaches from the depth of his heart both locally and across the country. His love for the Lord is evident in preaching and teaching and continues to be a blessing to the body of Christ.
Dr. Wilson has been an active member of the Wisconsin General Baptist State Convention, Inc. since 1983 and has served in various capacities.
After the passing of Dr. Floyd Prude, Jr., Dr. Wilson became Convention President. Dr. Wilson and his cabinet continued the combined programs of the Late Presidents. As the Convention proceeded to move forward, he added plans that the Convention needed to address in this present day, engaging our young pastors in various areas of the convention work.
After finishing the tenure of Dr. Prude, Dr. Wilson was elected the ninth President of this great Convention in 2012. Dr. Wilson has been instrumental in obtaining a 501c3 for the Convention as well as insurance for the Convention. The Wisconsin General Baptist State Convention has partnered with the Salvation Army, Wendy’s Restaurants, MICAH, and the Ministers’ Late Night Association. He has also led the effort in Foreign Missions to build 25 houses in Haiti.
